"Creativity is contagious. Pass it on." -A. Einstein As a special education teacher, this quote has transformed my daily instruction and has helped to the light the fire of motivation in many of my amazing students.
As a special education teacher, I work with the most amazing students.
These kids have endless abilities, though some tend to struggle while trying to show these abilities on standardized measures. Allowing creativity and hands-on learning, these student make academic gains and have fun!
We live in Grafton, ND. In our small town, we have a high poverty rate. It is my goal to never allow financial disparities determine the level of success in the classroom these students achieve. Our daily mission is to learn and grow, and we celebrate growth and progress.
Though at times it may seem like the odds are stacked against them, these students are filled with grit and resilience. They are the embodiment of brave. They are hungry for knowledge and ready to tackle these challenges. We make the most out of each day and never let poverty or disabilities stop us. I am excited to help them get creative and show their abilities!
My Project
Having a Cricut Explore Air 2 machine in our classroom will lead to great things for many students. This machine will allow my students to tap into their creative abilties, providing them with a pathway to shine in an environment that often focuses on their weaknesses.
As a special education teacher, my students are motivated by many seemingly unconventional reinforcements.
I have found that my students are highly motivated by handmade items such as personalized t-shirts, ha. The Cricut will allow students to establish rewards for meeting thier behavior and academic goals, as well as provide them with a way to take service learning to the next level via custom orders for teachers and other students. This will also increase academic/real-life skills in math, reading, and communication.
Cricuts have endless possibilities, and my students will love to make our school a more positive place by the addition of projects and improved behavior. A machine that can be kept in their classroom will help these students to increase their creativity, as well as their use of technology and entrepreneurship.
