Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in Northern California. A majority of our students receive free or reduced price lunch, and nearly half of my students are second language learners. My students come from hardworking families trying to make ends meet doing all that they can to support their families. Although, our students and families face many challenges, we created a learning environment where all students can thrive, with the use of technology and the support of passionate teachers. Our students are very lucky to have a one-to-one ratio of students-to-devices which allows them to explore the world around them and prepares them for the high tech world they will be entering as adults.
I am passionate about developing meaningful relationships with my students and creating engaging learning experience that will keep them lifelong learners.
My Project
I am really excited to offer my students some hands on learning with insects and microscopes. I know these items will be an experience they will remember for years to come. There is nothing better than seeing a child's eyes light up with wonder and curiosity when they learn about something new. My goal is to captivate the future entomologists and scientists.
What better way to capture future scientists than with bugs and owl pellets?
I am asking for a grasshoppers and microscopes to engage my students in the fascinating world of entomology. My students will be able to get up close and personal with these specimens. This will give us a better understanding of how these amazing creatures lived. We will focus on a full unit of insects and birds. Students will create insects posters and write reflections about each experience. We are crawling with excitement to get this started!
