My Students

The thing you notice first about our class is the way we work and play together. Many students need extra help with reading, writing and math and they know that much of that help will come from their fellow classmates. Our class is diverse. Students come from different backgrounds, cultures and world experiences.

"We are crew not passengers" is our motto.

Almost everything we do is a partner or group activity. Our favorite part of the day is morning meeting. This is when we greet each other, learn new poems and songs and work on social skills. This carries over into math and language arts where students work together, and help each other go beyond their comfort zone.

My Project

One of the big questions students ask is what do I do when I'm done? As an answer to that question, I would love to offer my students more opportunities to be creative and to be able to work independently at their own ability and interest levels.

I would like to set up a creativity zone where students could find an array of options that they can use for independent, partner, or small group classwork.

Two adjustable literature organizers would be the cornerstone of this creative space. They would be filled with writing prompts, literacy challenges, science and social studies comprehension challenges, Math games and puzzles, Paper for creative writing, letters and reports.
