This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of them have experienced challenges in their lives and have difficulty coming to school and concentrating on the task at hand so learning needs to be fun and factual.
Our classes serve students with a range of challenges, including homelessness, crime and violence, and specific learning disabilities.
The typical student in my class reads at a 3rd-grade level and many struggles with basic number sense. 90% of our students are African American or Latino receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
My students attend a Title I school and for this very reason, parents cannot afford to give a child a simple gift as going to the movie.
My Project
Students in today's society spend much time with electronics to entertain them. They enjoy the animated and colorful way information is provided to them. Teachers are finding it hard to compete with these gadgets that capture and hold students attention. If students are able to access Reading, Science and Math material from working computers this should help to peek students interest to learn and explore new information.
Technology can help to open a whole new world for the students in my classroom as they will spend a short ten months with me.
If I can use technology in the form of laptops to assist their learning, this would benefit not only students but parents, teachers, schools, and the state.
