Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our mission statement is to "support families and prepare children for success in school and in life.” Our school is located in Owosso, MI and serves families who reside in Shiawassee County. Our school provides preschool education services for part-day sessions or full-day sessions. We provide comprehensive preschool education for the children and families in this area. We have a total of 244 low income or at-risk children in attendance at our school.
Children attend head start to reduce or eliminate the educational barrier that could interfere with educational achievement in kindergarten and beyond.
The children and families who receive head start services represent a variety of cultural backgrounds.
We use the Creative Curriculum. This approach sets our classroom content based on the student's interest and ability. All of our lessons are individualized to fit each child and their unique style of learning. Children learn best when they are truly invested in the topic. The more they can get a hands-on feel, the more information they will retain.
My Project
Play is far more important to children than parents realize. In preschool, it is actually the key to learning. I would like to give my students the extra tools to be able to do this. We were a new classroom in the past years and are working on securing more materials for our classroom. Many of the materials will help encourage the students to play in different roles.
Children are naturally curious from the moment they gain control of their legs and arms.
I want to give my students all the materials they need to explore their creativity. Art helps children develop their small muscle skills. It also helps them develop greater eye-hand coordination. These are both skills that help later in life with writing and reading skills. Help me give my students materials to have in their art area and be able to continue their development.
