Our school demographic is roughly 99% African American, 0.5% Hispanic, and 0.5% White. Of our students, 96% are coming from low-income families with a 20.1% mobility rate.
Our school's mission is to produce lifelong learners!
We create these learners by building positive relationships with our students and modeling expectations of excellence in our classrooms that our students will seek to emulate. We value student voice and leadership, and we use ordinary moments within the school day to explicitly teach and cultivate leadership skills because we recognize that student ownership supports the overall goals of our school.
These materials mainly consist of supplies: scissors, markers, cardstock paper, glue sticks, Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues. The art supplies will be for my students to use in math lessons, community building activities, and social and emotional learning.
My goal is for my students to create work they are proud of to display on the walls of the classroom.
Also included in this project are yoga balls for flexible seating. Table point winners will have the opportunity to use the yoga balls for seats the following week. This positive behavior incentive will bring joy and fun to our classroom!
