Sixth grade is a pivotal year for teaching collaboration, group work, and self-advocacy before the transition to middle school. In this age of technology, my students need opportunities to engage in their learning and with their peers on a regular basis.
My students come from a variety socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds with individual learning modalities, special needs, and varying learning levels, which ultimately create our awesome classroom family!
Pre-teen is a difficult age where a love for inquisitive learning needs to be instilled. Being able to provide them the opportunity to work and create in a variety of settings is essential to fostering a love for independence as well as teamwork.
My students are uniquely different, talented, and inquisitive. Engaging them in their learning and helping them to become active participants in my learning environment is my goal at all times. Our classroom is a family environment where differences are respected, cultivated, and nurtured.
Up-to-date technology benefits student learning, provides accessibility to those students less fortunate, and fosters a future-ready group of students ready to tackle the adult world.
My Project
The ability to be creative is pivotal to learning. Each day, I ask my students to write, draw, or explain their learning. In an increasingly digital world, students use a variety of digital tools to demonstrate understanding; however, my classroom is not equipped with a color printer that students may utilize to showcase their work.
Students who are able to show-off their work feel supported, encouraged, and proud of their learning.
Our project includes a color ink-jet printer to be used in our classroom on a regular basis to print student-created work. My students will benefit from being able to create and know their work will be proudly displayed.
