I love our 'little' school for so many reasons. Our 4K-8th-grade school has smaller class sizes, which allows us to spend a lot of time with individuals or small groups of students. My students show a lot of interest in the library as well as technology.
North Cape School has an extra special place in my heart because it is the school that I went to for kindergarten through 8th grade 20+ years ago!
I enjoy working with students in the library and the computer lab. We do projects that focus a lot on problem-solving, coding and real-world applications.
My Project
Our school is going one-to-one Chromebooks for the 3-8th grade for the 2018-2019 school year. With this one-to-one initiative, the desktop computer lab will be transitioned into the 'Creativity Lab' where we will have computer classes as well as Makerspace activities. I have been introducing 1st through 5th-grade students to different Makerspace activities this school year during computer and library classes. I'm excited to have a place next year to focus on these activities with the students.
The Creativity Lab will focus on teaching students ways to become strategic thinkers who can problem solve independently.
These Dash and Dot Robots will be a great addition to our Lego Mindstorm Robots, specifically for the 3-5th-grade students. The storage totes will also help to keep our lab organized and clean.
