This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from an extremely blighted, dangerous area of our city. Many of them come to school hungry, tired, stressed out and seeking attention in any way they know how. A portion of these students have experienced severe trauma, while a handful of others don't get their basic needs met at home.
My students do not have the luxury of having enough PE equipment for the entire class to practice the new skills I would like to teach them.
I am trying to teach my students new skills and activities which will allow them to become lifelong learners and movers.
My Project
As a PE teacher, I have to supply my own school supplies, such as sticky notes, expo markers/erases, colored pencils and such. I am trying to allow my students the opportunity to be more creative by allowing them to color in their journals.
Using a variety of mediums, I am giving my students the chance to freely express themselves while learning how to set SMART goals.
I allow my students the chance to color and use sticky notes as reminders. I want to use the wipeboards, expo markers and erasers to introduce some new games and activities, such as jeopardy and quick draw.
I feel my students need to have the same opportunity to explore a variety of games and activities that are non conventional for PE, while learning how to freely express themselves in a healthy envrionment.
