8th grade is a very important age for young people because they are really developing their own identity. They are figuring out who they want to be and who they don't want to be. This is also the time where students get ready for high school.
I teach at a high poverty, public school in the heart of San Francisco.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and are on free and reduced lunch. We focus on rigorous curriculum, community building and interactive and engaging education. We want to provide students with the academic, social and emotional skills to be successful in the future.
My Project
Students will be able to use the supplies for writing poems and drawing pictures that relate to the books they are reading and the struggles many of them face outside the four walls of my classroom.
This will allow for students to show a great deal of creatively in a number of different ways.
It will also allow for students to express themselves, get to know their classmates and have out class community continue to grow. This can also be especially beneficial for my EL students because visuals are so important as well and communication with one another. I look forward to the growing and discussion among my students that will take place because of these supplies.
