One of the components that are so important is for these five year old children to express their thoughts and to have them write. It is such a challenge to conquer this expectation, that we need to come up with creative ideas to succeed.
These kindergarten children from from a high poverty community that is still recovering from Hurricane Sandy and slowly putting their lives together.
Many of them still are displaced from their homes and many others will never return to the place they knew as home. Our school serves as a place of security and the one thing that remains after their lives were turned upside down.
Our school has also gone through many changes and many children that used to be a common face have moved to other places and so many new ones have entered as more low income housing have been built. We are also growing with children from other countries and where this school setting is so new to them. Our school continues to struggle to create the most comfortable setting for all of them in one classroom.
My Project
What better way to unite children then to use paint and paper. Most children jump at the chance to get their hands all dirty and start creating art as they see it. How amazing would it be to receive paint, paper, paint rollers and composition books to capture all their work. To be able to document the growth they will have from September to June.
My dream is to set up the most amazing learning station that allows every child to explore with glitter paint, dot painters, finger stamp paint and markers to use their imaginations and become the future artists of the world.
In this learning station they will learn how to share, clean up and be neat workers. They will use their creativity and collaboration to create art with their peers and be proud of what they have created as it hangs up in the classroom.
These donations will improve the classroom by allowing paint, paper and dotters to be used in a learning station where nothing like it exists.
It will give them the opportunity to come together and unite in an area of the classroom where they will all be eager and curious about. It will also help put art on the walls that the children have created and can orally share with everyone.
