This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a second-year school where more than three quarters of our school comes from low-income households. We are an ICT classroom where 40% of our students receive IEPs with special accommodations, and 1 out of 3 students are reading below grade level.
Many of our students are striving learners who are below grade level and working hard to foster a love of learning!
We are here to make that happen! We are working hard to foster this love by giving students multiple opportunities to learn and get excited to become readers, authors, scientists and mathematicians!
My Project
Students have spent the year using much of the same manipulatives for quiet and choice time (legos/playdoh/lacing cards,) which can become a bit boring, and have become less challenging over time.My students would greatly benefit from new and more exciting manipulatives to learn and grow in psychological and social/emotional development from. For example, students will use magna tiles to learn about new geometric shapes in Math, experiement with properties of magnets during Science, and to build structures during quiet time.
With these STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) manipulatives, 1-02 students will become more challenged, and will further develop creativity, critical thinking, evaluation, and desision making skills invaluable to their development at first graders and beyond!
