My Students

My students come from two towns and have combined into one junior high which is housed at our high school. Both towns are rural, low-income farming communities. The students come with an eagerness to learn but have limited paper resources to use.

At our school, 75 percent of our student body are on free and reduced-price meals.

Many students come from one parent-homes and/or blended homes. Many have not ever traveled outside the state. We have a high ESOL population, as well, with the meat packing plant in one of the towns.

My Project

This seating would be ideal for student learning in my room because of the options it would provide. I have some students that prefer the high top tables and others who would rather sit at a lower table. Right now, our white plastic tables are bending in two, because of all the collaboration and projects that we do at the tables. Projects wouldn't roll to the center and get messed up.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.

This would be a wonderful addition.
