Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a large, underprivileged city with an underfunded school system. We are faced with numerous challenges not only academically but socially as well. As my students are learning new topics in geometry and STEM Lab, many of them are also learning a second language.
My students are engaged in learning when they have a hands on, visual way to experience learning.
I want give my students the ability to see and touch math concepts. They strive to experience success in mathematics and they also understand the need for improved critical thinking as they look towards the future.
My Project
A well organized classroom with basic supplies for creating posters and other math projects will help my students retain what we learn and take ownership of their learning. When my students create projects like learning manuals and study guides for the concepts we have learned in class they see real life applications and extend their learning at the same time.
The colorful cardstock and poster paper will give my students the ability to creatively demonstrate what they have learned; reluctant learners find this colorful paper engages them in ways that notebook paper doesn't.
My classes will create comic strips, posters, and game boards with the cardstock and poster paper. When they work with fun, quality supplies my students know that their work is important, worthwhile, and valued. This project will enrich their learning experience.
