This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 10-12-year-old fifth-grade students with a variety of academic, social, and behavioral needs. My students are curious and looking forward to middle school. However, due to financial and social-economic concerns for families, books are considered a luxury for my families and students at my school. Some of my students required intensive small group instruction in reading.
We are looking forward to teaching our 9-12-year-old students' foundation skills in reading fiction, nonfiction, popular realistic fiction, poems, historical fiction, books inspired by real life, and traditional literature.
In order to accomplish this reading goal, we'd love to donate books to each student for reading at school and at their homes after school. Books can be a gateway for knowledge, dreams, and success in life when students are exposed to reading various types of literature.
I believe my students need every opportunity to learn about the various types of literature. Learning is fun, therefore let's help our students learn and grow.
My Project
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
My students will be able to decide which books they have an interest in while learning to look for context clues to help them in understanding new vocabulary words among amazing adventures that they will learn from reading a variety of literature and books.
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read.
