Do you remember your favorite part of Kindergarten. For many of us it was arts and crafts time. Some of us surely still have the masterpieces we created all those years ago. These supplies will allow me to integrate art and creative experiences into almost every area of our day.
I teach kindergarten at a high poverty school in a military community in Oklahoma.
Ninety percent of our school population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Most of us could not imagine the extreme daily struggles my culturally diverse students have to face at such a young age. When parents are doing their best just to feed their children, creative experiences at home are just not a priority. Our school is a safe haven for these resilient students, where they should be able to express themselves in a variety of ways. Unfortunately we have no art class and teachers are faced with the daunting task of providing creative experiences for students with no available supplies.
My Project
With these supplies, my students will be able to learn in more developmentally appropriate ways. We will be able to use a variety of mediums to enhance our fine motor skills. We could experience different textures and patterns for science and math. We could get our hands on the alphabet with dough. And we could create beautiful pictures to decorate their difficult worlds with.
Your generous donation will provide a wonderful outlet for my beautiful student's to cope with their daily struggle to survive.
It will allow them to truly tap into their creativity and learn in a way that simple pencil and paper won't allow. Your donation will put some sparkle back into the lives of these precious children.
