My first graders live in NYC and come from a variety of backgrounds. I have students from many different economic backgrounds, and we all come together as one in our classroom. My 1st-grade classroom is a place where students are equals and respected. Our school provides many opportunities for students to thrive in arts, physical education, and academics.
Our school has been virtually teaching for over a month now.
Teachers are recording lessons each day for students to watch at home and complete the activities. Because we had no warning of when schools would be closing we weren't able to send home any school materials with students. Students are using online platforms to read and recreating the materials at home if they don't have printers.
My Project
This distance learning project is going to two siblings that attend my school to help them with at home learning.
Most important for this family was a place to do their work at home.
We selected a foldable bed tray/lap desk that they can set up in a quiet spot of their apartment.
The additional items included in the project are school supplies and art materials. Arts and craft projects are very important for 1st graders development and also help with emotions while we are all home. Finally I have selected books and puzzle games to supplement the online reading programs that we are using for online learning.
