My students are brave, creative, and intelligent. Our community is supportive but primarily high poverty. So while my students have a foundation for success, they face many obstacles on that journey.
For example, the high poverty in our community results in many students who enter public education at a disadvantage when compared academically to their more affluent peers in neighboring counties.
However, they are bright eager learners just ready for someone to facilitate their education.
My students deserve to have access to effective tools, so they can prepare for college and the workforce. We are ready to tackle the world, but we could use a little help from our friends.
My Project
Our school system has purchased a district license for Adobe Creative Cloud. This is an amazing tool for me and my students. However, we do not personally have the proper equipment to run such a powerful program. I want to teach a complete class on how to use these tools, but I need a powerful enough machine that is also portable to do so. This project is for a laptop that has the specifications necessary to smoothly power the Adobe Creative Cloud. In order to use these programs, a computer with adequate speed, memory, and storage is imperative for effective functionality. Having access to such equipment, which I currently do not have, will allow me to learn these programs and use them in my teaching. As I learn, I can also bring this new technical knowledge to my students as we create more professional products of our learning, fostering a more authentic and engaging learning experience. I am so excited at the prospect of not only learning how to use these tools that are so very relevant to my students' lives but to facilitate their use of them as well. As we become more proficient, we can seek other equipment funding options for more access, but presently I feel this is a great place to start!
