Creative Thinking Resources for Gifted 2nd and 3rd Graders
Help me give my students lessons and experiences with convergent analysis, divergent synthesis, visual/spatial thinking, and evaluation. These are books to help me plan exciting lessons with valuable life skills to encourage creativity and diverse problem solving strategies.
My students are young creative thinkers looking for guidance, inspiration, and above all, a good challenge. They are second and third graders who have been identified for Talented and Gifted (TAG) services. These children love logic puzzles and figuring out what makes things work.
I'd like to help them both develop their convergent and divergent thinking skills, as well as their grit, persistence, and determination.
The best thing about working with them is seeing them try, fail, try, fail, then try and succeed. When their eyes light up after completing a challenge, it's fabulous!
My Project
I'd love 3 books from the Primary Education Thinking Skills (PETS) series to help me plan and deliver lessons to gifted 2nd and 3rd graders. Though I'm a veteran teacher, this is my first year working with gifted students in these grade levels. I'd like to help nearly 45 students develop the ability to think creatively and purposefully to solve challenges.
Critial thinking is one of the key skills I'd like to promote in my gifted learners.
The PETS books will help me challenge and guide these wonderful thinkers, several of whom come from traditionally disadvantaged groups and whose families are new to gifted education. Exposure at a young age to critical thinking skills will help ensure their success as they tackle more challenging topics and subjects as gifted scholars.
