As a teacher in a special education classroom, in a low income school district, I see a variety of challenges that my students face each day. Despite these challenges, these students come to school with positive attitudes and strive for success. My goal is to provide resources that create an enriching environment that is filled with creative outlets and meaningful learning experiences.
Each student in my special education class has a unique personality and individual set of needs.
My students are full of energy and love to participate in activities that incorporate movement. Many of these students are from migrant families and have lived in many different places for a short amount of time.
My vision for my classroom is to create a place that my students feel comfortable and safe in. I choose to focus on the abilities and strengths that my students possess rather than the areas they may struggle in. They are amazing kids that are capable of achieving so much. I hope to provide encouragement, love and support so that these students can become independent in skills that will help them be successful in their lives outside of school.
My Project
Creating art allows children, especially those that have limited verbal ability, to express themselves in ways that words cannot. Exploring the world through art also enhances their senses while seeing the bright colors and touching different textures.
These art materials will nurture their ability to think creatively.
The students will be able to use the puzzle piece craft kit to express themselves and learn about how they each fit together to create a classroom community. The students will practice color concepts using the color sorting puzzle. They will have the opportunity to use the sun catcher craft to experience how light enhances colors. These materials will be enjoyed and appreciated by my students.
