This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"We believe in making our school a better place." said a fifth grader during a conversation about our school's culture. And they do just that through community-minded thoughts and actions. We love to fill our hallways with art that reflects our school values. Located in the middle of downtown Kansas City, our students are diverse in background, neighborhood, and interests! We serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Our students love art class and thrive when given quality materials with which they can freely experiment.
My Project
Our students thrive when given high-quality materials. Last year, we acquired two potting wheels and a kiln. This year we are in need of lots of clay to support our 270 students as they learn sculpting basics and begin working with our potting wheels. Throughout the year, students will learn through using basic hand-building techniques creating pinch pots, coiling, and creating with the slab method. Later in the year, students will throw pots and other small pieces using our new wheels. All of the materials requested will help us become stronger, more experienced artists at our school.
