My students are creative, imaginative, and inquisitive! They enjoy learning new things by building and creating as well as using technology. My students come from a low-income/high poverty neighborhood. Despite the many challenges they face in and out of school, they have created a warm and caring classroom in which they continue to persist and grow academically and personally.
My students have completed several collaborative projects this year.
One recent project that students completed was the PEEPs (marshmallow bunnies) diorama. Students worked together in groups of three to recreate a scene from their novel books. Since our students loved this project, my co-teacher and I are always thinking about ways in which they can express their creativity.
Our students love using technology, therefore we are always thinking of ways to have them showcase their learning using technology. We just completed a unit on graphic novels and would like students to show what they know by creating their own graphic novels. Even though they will look fabulous on chromebooks, we would love the opportunity to print them and allow students to take them home to share with their parents.
We recently were able to purchase a printer for our classroom through DonorsChoose.org which has allowed our students to have so many more opportunities to showcase their learning. We have been able to print student work such as stories, dramas, comics, and essays. This has allowed us to display student work so that their peers and other students can see what we are up to in 5th grade. When students are able to print their work, they feel proud and accomplished. We would like to continue to see our students excited to print the work that create. In order for us to continue to use our classroom printer, we will need ink cartridges.
