My students need these colorful, durable balance ball chairs to allow them to bounce, stretch, and move to focus throughout the day. They will be an awesome addition to our flexible seating.
My sixth grade students are a unique, diverse group of learners who study the standards through a visual and performing arts lens. They are creative, enthusiastic, interesting, and most eager to express what they learn. We often engage in collaborative, project-based learning that emphasizes knowledge, problem-solving, responsibility, and real-world application through school and community service.
These artistic, innovative sixth graders love to move and work best when their workspace is fluid and conducive to their alternative learning styles.
Since the school year started, I've gradually added flexible seating opportunities (items within my budget) in the hope that I could help foster a strong sense of community and a commitment to learning.
Now, my students group around our beanbag or at our cafe table, sit on the rug, or exchange desks in order to support the different modes of learning we utilize--individual study, group work, presentations, or peer-peer instruction. Along the way, the classroom climate has become more harmonious, and test scores have increased. With such success, it is my desire to transform my classroom completely to a flexible seating model. These incredibly exceptional individuals deserve an environment that meets their needs and helps foster higher-order thinking skills.
My Project
With your donations, our class will receive (6) Gaiam Backless Balance Ball Chairs on wheels! I was so lucky to recently have my first Donor's Choose project fully funded, and I am due to receive some great additions to my future flexible classroom set-up. All of these items offer instant, open collaboration opportunities, which coincide with the teaching philosophies that best meet the needs of our unique population. I'll have some great rolling tables and other flexible seating choices for my students.
To help complete my vision, we need a few more seating options.
A balance ball chair is the perfect choice for the student who needs to wiggle, bounce, and be completely mobile for class grouping because of the smooth set of wheels on the bottom! The busy student will be focused and ready to learn.
