Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a group of energetic nine and ten year olds, who love to read and write. Like many of us, they tend to read laying down or curled up. When it comes to writing, some stand, some sit, some lie down, and some do a little of it all!
My students work in small groups, individually, and whole class.
Creating the right space for this is always creatively challenging. They have been wonderful at helping to brainstorm great solutions.
My Project
We are a population of thirty-five students. We have a lot of energy (as we should) and enjoy reading and writing outside of a standard desk. Also, the desks take up so much space!
We would love to have a classroom that is spacious and open, with various seating options.
If some of the desks are eliminated, we could create space for the entire class to gather in a circle. We could also create spaces to meet with our book clubs or to work with our writing partners. Sometimes, it is fun to create a reading nook either alone or with a friend.
The donations we are asking for will open the classroom up by providing more space. The "Surf Lap Desk" can be used either sitting on the floor or sitting on a chair without a table. Most of us prefer to sit at low table tops, so we would love to have some cushions to sit upon (such as the "SoftZone floor cushions"). Clip boards are wonderful, but not always big enough. Portable laptop lap desks are perfect to hold our computers, our notebooks, or our reading materials.
