Have you ever played in a preschool classroom without the proper supplies? Well my students have! Our district has been cutting programs for the past 4 years. Please help fund this project so my students can let their imaginations run wild!
My student population is very diverse, from free and reduced lunch, socioeconomically disadvantaged, to subsidized housing.
My students need an opportunity to let their imagination out and explore the exciting world of imaginative play. They attend an urban school district in Sacramento County. Our district was named one of the most ethnically diverse in the country.
My Project
These resources will help my students benefit from the world of imagination. We have but a small section in our classroom that includes a piecemeal kitchen that is falling apart from over use, and classroom toys that I bring from home or purchase with my own money. My students will enjoy the opportunities to extend their learning through the use of dramatic play. My students will use the dress-up and costumes to link their learning to the units that we have studied on community helpers and the different roles that families play. The baby dolls will allow them to pretend play with each other roles from their families. The tool kits will allow them to role play some of the occupations that we have been learning about.
My students will get an opportunity to learn through the use of dramatic play.
Research has shown that young children learn through the use of play, mainly dramatic play. They constantly watch what we do, absorbing the daily rituals of the adults in their lives. These materials will allow them to interact and learn about the roles that we and other community workers have.
