My students need supplies to successfully study United States history in a fun and imaginative way!

"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." -Albert Einstein
My students are effervescent seventh and eighth graders with a growing curiosity for the way the world around them works.
Students will be continuing their history education beginning with Reconstruction in the South following the Civil War all the way to the current situations in the Middle East. I teach in an urban setting with more than half of my students on free or reduced lunch. My students are in need of supplies for the upcoming school year in order to ensure their success.
This year we will be furthering my student's United States History education with learning about the end of slavery and the impact it had on the country all the way to the civil rights movement and its continued influence in our current society. To foster a curiosity in the past and connection to current events, my classroom is project based and encourages students to discover history on their own terms.
The supplies I have requested will go far in allowing me to provide differentiated and engaging instruction in the classroom.
The different colors of paper will allow me to print differentiated and tiered assignments and easily give them out to students who need them without bringing attention to any disabilities students may have. Colored paper also makes class projects more fun and engaging for interactive notebooks.
In addition to the paper, whiteboards will make it so much easier to assess my students in real time. I can see what answers they chose immediately and determine if we can move on or if further review is necessary for the material. Highlighters are essential to cloze reading activities which strengthen reading comprehension by focusing on key vocabulary words and main ideas.
With growing class sizes and our many activities, these supplies will be well cared for and go far in my classroom throughout the school year. I want students to hit the ground running and these supplies will allow them to do that.
