Help me give my students play people, toy storage organizer and babies for the gift of play in a physically distant, masked world. These items encourage open-ended, imaginative play. All of these toys can be easily sanitized and shared which is critical this year!
I come from a beautiful community in Montana where we see blue mountain tops from our desks and enjoy incredible snowstorms from our carpet. Most days we are able to observe a family of sandhill cranes as they casually peruse the playground for worms. We are so lucky to live in a place like this, and the kids know it too! I'm teaching kindergarten for the first time this year and am honored to be my students' first educational ambassador.
Playful, curious, and excited for school, my students just want to connect with each other and find their place in this crazy new world.
My Project
Imaginative play is a critical part of the kindergarten classroom. This is my first year teaching kindergarten and the classroom needs materials that will encourage creative play, while also maintaining strict COVID-19 cleaning standards.
I believe in open-ended play where students use neutral, flexible toys to create diverse and exciting worlds together.
Playtime in the classroom encourages collaboration, creative thinking and social problem solving; it is also an enormous source of joy. These are skills that are desperately needed, especially now, and especially in kindergarten. We will play this year - safely - every single day, because I believe that it's the greatest gift I can give to my young learners.
