This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my wonderful students come from the neighborhood around the school but we also get a lot from various areas around Memphis. All are a delight to teach. We are a Title I school, and the boys and girls represent a diverse population.
I love my position as the school librarian!
I see all students at least once every two weeks, but have a dedicated day for "enrichment" where students can explore and test their curiosity. My kids need more than just books, and you can help.
My Project
Through the years I have accumulated many puppets and my students love to reenact the stories they hear and read. I have always wanted to build a puppet theater and have never gotten around to it. This project would provide us with a puppet theater and additional diverse puppets
that will allow my students to use their creativity, give them a way to release emotional tensions and help with their language development.
Pretend play allows students to share their thoughts, feelings and ideas while developing their dexterity, imaginations and physical and cognitive and emotional strength. I believe Imaginative play is very important for healthy brain development. Also, it is through various pretend play that children learn to engage and interact with the world around them.
