This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in Life Skills class in grades 1st-5th and attend inclusion classes with their grade level teacher. They have been diagnosed with, Speech Impairment, Developmental Delays, Emotional Disturbance and Down Syndrome. My students are non-verbal and need to work in communication skills. Even though they have similar diagnostic, they each have unique abilities and disabilities. This semester I am privileged to collaborate with High School Life Skills students in P.A.L.S. (Peer Assistance, Leadership & Service) program. This is my first year working with Bilingual Life Skills students at the elementary level and all of my students receive free lunch.

Exceptional children can often be in a special education classroom for up to five years, so it’s critical that their classroom feels like home.

Students work best in a warm and welcoming environment — an environment that will make them feel safe and secure and with your help I will provide just that.

My Project

The materials and supplies I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go and how the items will be used. We just need your help in getting everything through our door!

The purchase donations will help students in Special Education programs such as Life Skills improve students' understanding and competency in an authentic & meaningful way by using sensorial, kinesthetic, perceptual and cognitive components that will engage their curiosity and enhance creativity.

This project supports our students in reading and writing as well as STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) projects. In order for students in special education program to access the curriculum we have to create unique lessons for them. Additionally, we do not receive school supplies from our students' families, due to socioeconomic status and/ or beginning year supplies kept in their inclusion classrooms. In addition, these supplies such as paper, pens, laminating pouches, we are requesting will support students in preparation for STAR & TELPAS ALT assessments. The amount of visual charts and manipulatives needed on a daily basis require constant laminating to protect and create efficient learning curriculum supports. Often, these are needed on demand as well as color ink to achieve brighter more realistic visuals to bridge their learning needs and IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals. Due to the intense support work cases, to keep our students engaged, we require more Postitive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) that include reinforces such as snacks, prizes, calming and stimulating manipulatives.
