As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My low-income students are the most creative students that I've had. They excel at whatever they put their minds to. We have had many challenges this year because of the many different kinds of weather. From Hurricane Harvey postponing school for 3 weeks to being off another week for freezing weather.
Being affected by Hurricane Harvey and freezing weather has not stopped each of them from growing in their own ways.
Every one of my students was affected by Hurricane Harvey. More than half of them had their homes flooded and had to move out or have family or friends living with them because of the same reason. It has been a devastating year to say the least.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with positive, creative, and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Many students were not able to bring school supplies this year because of being flooded from Hurricane Harvey. Having markers will help student learn the curriculum while having fun with color. Mistakes are part of learning also. The erasers will help them correct mistakes and learn from them.
Donating to my project will help my students be able to make anchor charts and posters using their new Crayola Broad Line Markers Bulk and Crayola 200 Ct Fine Line Markers.
Anchor charts are a huge part of my classroom. I have them all over, some for them to refer back to during assignments or tests, and some are student-made.
Students will be able to focus on their academics rather than what supplies they do not have.
