My students need STEM building activities like Light-Up Building Bricks, Marble Run and Vehicle Building Engineering Center to enhance their learning and creativity. This will allow them to get a jump start towards their future with today's 21st century STEM expectations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class is a kinder collab class that supports full SDC inclusion. We have 14 general education typical peers and 12 SDC students with IEPs. Together, our kids learn academic achievement as well as a tremendous amount of compassion, patience, and understanding. The students collaborate to show that EVERYONE is capable of learning and succeeding.
Our students are mostly second language learners who are craving the opportunity to experience and engage in activities and curriculum projects that they enjoy.
Approximately 80% of our students come from low income homes. With every school in the district deciding on a distinguished practice for their students, we have chosen to incorporate technology as ours. We want to be able to use technology daily, within our curriculum, to become digitally fluent and successful 21st Century learners. Our students need as many opportunities as possible to give them the experiences that they will need to become successful individuals in the future. Now that we are becoming a "technology" school, we can focus on collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity all within the digital world.
My Project
This project will allow us to empower our students through the importance of science and technology. Because our students have very limited access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering,Mathematics) activities at home, they would be thrilled at the opportunity to be able to engage with these creative building sets at school.
This equipment would allow our students, at a very young age, to become familiar with STEM related ideas and the science behind it.
The future is built around engineering and technology, and our students need the tools to learn and understand computers, science, engineering and other various programs. This would allow for groups of students in the classroom to work together and collaboratively learn the idea of engineering and science.
Hands-on activities such as Transluscent Imagination Builders and Marble Run allow for some of our SDC students to engage in STEM building ideas successfully with their typical peers. These building lessons will be used during our independent center time when the students are engaging in self exploratory science and engineering. They can work with a partner or small group to decide on structural and creative designs using the light up building bricks and fairy tales problem solving manipulative kits. This will also enhance communication and language acquisition for some our special needs kiddos. We want to encourage higher level thinking and science standards for ALL our students!
