This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a new art teacher in a Title I school. My students range from Pre-K to 8th grade. A majority of the students have behavioral issues and learning challenges.
The same students that created difficulty and challenged me during my first week of class, were the first ones to come to me on their free period to "hang out and help." Those same students expressed a desire to connect with me and be a positive role model.
Working with students from inner-city Baltimore can be overwhelming, but incredibly rewarding. If we as a city, community, and nation come together to reach out to our youth, the rewards will be off the charts!
My Project
My students have been working on different aspects of landscape drawing. The lessons include learning how to depict perspective and value in a landscape drawing. The students can select an imaginary landscape or a landscape from their environment.
The supplies I requested will help the students complete their final landscape painting using watercolor paints and paper.
Students will be graded on their ability to depict foreground, middle ground, and background. They will also be graded on their ability to represent depth and distance when painting the sky.
I hope to have enough supplies so that they can do a few practice landscapes before submitting their final project.
