This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students from Baltimore City are part of a public school program that provides them with skills needed for college. As students in a college prep program, they are very ambitious, curious, insightful and creative! They enjoy expressing themselves through the arts.
Students in my art classes are talented and eager to learn new skills!
They take joy in connecting content as well as current events within art. This makes our class and their educational experience enriching. I love to see their faces light up once they've completed a projects they are proud of!
My Project
My kippsters enjoy visual arts class! They are extremely creative and look forward to attending class. Funding the art class has been a challenge this school year. Being able to have supplies such as drawing paper, paint and markers will allow students to express themselves while engaging in meaningful lessons.
Students will use various materials to create projects such as self portraits, African inspired prints, watercolor paintings and recycled works of art.
Having essential supplies will help students explore different media while developing art related skills.
Some of the projects students will create this year are aligned with content in other subjects. Being able to make connections in art class with social studies, language arts, science and math are meaningful experiences. The arts encompass all subjects and I want my students to be engaged in projects which support their learning.
