Imagine driving a short ways out of town and pulling up to a school surrounded by vineyards. Walk to the back of the school and enter into a kindergarten classroom. You would see students in small groups working around the room on different activities. Some students are sitting at a table manipulating letters while others are practicing letter recognition on the iPad. Several students are reviewing the letters in their name with the teacher while another group listens to a story on CD. One group is working with a parent helper on cutting skills.
My students love to learn through play and discovery.
Many are from homes with little structure and/or low incomes. Most students come to kindergarten with little knowledge of what school will be like; however, all of my students are eager to learn.
All students need a chance to express themselves and have fun creating. Students will learn about lines, shapes, texture and colors. My kinder students will also be using art to show what they know and/or become more engaged with topics we are learning about! For example, when we are learning about penguins, we will be creating our very own penguins to display around the room with an interesting fact!
Students will be able to use their supplies to create beautiful masterpieces!
They will be able to show off their knowledge and skills to their peers and families through art. Art is engaging and fun in kindergarten! Students look forward to activities where they can use the art supplies.
