This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kindergarteners come from a low socioeconomic background. Even though this is on their back, they are the most loving and hard working 5 and 6 year olds. Being a teacher, I don’t have much to give financially, and I want my students to grow and thrive as much as they can. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom.
These students come from tough situations and despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My Project
My students need art supplies to help them develop their fine motor skills and foster their creativity. Fine motor development is an important skill for Kindergarteners to acquire and fostering creativity is equally important. Every week my students use play doh to craft letters, numbers, shapes, and more. They use crayons and markers to create books and pictures to help them learn.
These activities help develop fine motor development without my students even realizing it.
They just know that they are playing and creating. They are fully engaged while having fun.
With public school funding declining every year, arts and crafts supplies are quickly diminishing in my classroom. Most of the arts and crafts I have in my classroom are supplies that I have purchased out of my pocket. Please consider donating to our classroom and investing in the lives of my sweet kindergarten students!
