Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an amazing class of 25 kindergartners. Our local community is formed overwhelmingly by recent immigrants from Mexico and Central America. 99% of my students are Latino and must navigate a bi-cultural and bilingual world. 92% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. It is my pleasure to work with students who show so much interest and curiosity in reading, writing, technology, science, math, history, health, and the arts.
Each day is a new chance to spark interest and learn something brand new.
Will we delve deeper into the butterfly life cycle? Will we read an amazing story? Will we learn to count even higher? I can't wait to see what today holds!
My Project
During this time, my Kinder students are responsible for their own materials. We are all very careful about not touching other peoples' resources. This presents a challenge because their books and materials are all stored at their desk.
A set of Cubbies in our classroom will be a game changer.
Students will be able to have a safe and secure storage space to better organize their things enabling them to have access to their desktops. Their desk is their little office. Each day can be a struggle to find workspace amongst books, folders, and supplies.
Cubbies will empower them to learn and practice personal responsibility and organizational skills.
