My students need an assortment of materials, such as tagboard, print cartridges, CD's, color ink pads, feathers, wiggly eyes, and more, for language props, music, arts and crafts, and building and writing activities.
What inspires your imagination to be creative? Is it music, painting, drawing, building, or some hands-on activity? First grade students are excited about learning, but each student has a unique way of expressing knowledge. Imagine a classroom that provided a choice of creativity for each student!
The students I teach are very energetic, active and inquisitive!
Each student has a unique learning style, but all have a desire to learn. I teach in one of the largest school districts in the nation and one of the highest in poverty. My school is considered "moderate" in poverty and most of the parents are hard-working middle-class parents. The majority of the students are in school on a transfer because parents may work in the area. Because we are not a high-poverty school or an optional school, we do not receive any additional funding such as Title I funds. We have a wonderful PTO that provides what they can through fundraisers, etc. However, we don't have additional funding for the “extras” that would provide choices and inspire creativity. Five-, six- and seven-year-old students are naturally curious, enjoy creating, and learn best when they are actively involved.
My Project
My students need an assortment of materials, such as tagboard, print cartridges, CDs, color ink pads, feathers, wiggly eyes and paper popz, for language props, music, arts and crafts, and building and writing activities. As a teacher of young children, I want to create an atmosphere that encourages each student to use their unique experiences and abilities to exhibit knowledge of a skill or topic taught. Teaching students to write stories is a challenging task. The materials I have requested will give that extra motivation needed to spark creativity. I can imagine … students building a marble structure, experimenting, and then writing about the procedure, steps taken, predictions, results and asking questions … students creating books using the color of paper they choose, adding extra cut-outs or stickers to the stories they write … students painting, drawing, coloring, making "fancy" 3-D pictures using descriptive words for colorful stories … students using computer software to create pictures, write stories, and actually printing them to share! All of the materials requested will give students choices to express and remember what they have learned through the created project and written description.
Your donation will provide students with a variety of tools and choices to inspire creativity.
Students will learn to use their individual learning style and feel confident as they develop good writing skills through creativity.
