My students are in 9th grade and are struggling readers. My school has a very high poverty rate and it is a struggle to have students attend school on a regular basis. Because parents are working, we do not get a whole lot of parental support.
I would like to create a project that would generate interest in reading, while at the same time helping to improve their reading comprehension and Lexile levels.
My students generally do not enjoy reading and have not had previous success in passing their standardized reading assessments. My goal is to use the arts to generate motivation in my students.
I plan on using the Cricut Easy Press and Cricut Bright Pad as a center where my students can use their imaginations and create things using the Cricut Easy Press Machine and Cricut Vinyl and Iron-on transfer vinyl rolls.
My students will be able to earn the privilege of going to the art center as by means of achievement, consistent attendance, and positive behavior.
I understand that students are motivated extrinsically and thus I feel that this would be an amazing way to motivate them. I also have the Cricut Air2 machine that will be housed in this arts center. Thank you for your consideration!
