Creative Common Core
My students need simple items such as crayons, colored pencils, giant sticky pads, and binders and 10 subscriptions to "O. Choices."
Students change year after year and so does a good teacher. In order to compete with the "i-industry," we have to present lessons in a more creative way. Help me help kids discover the original "i" of IMAGINATION!
My students are faced with many challenges.
We are a Title I and III high school. The number of kids with a "normal" home life seems to be few and far between. Faced with poverty, single parents, no parents (foster children), drugs and gangs, making the right decision to stay in school (and to do well) is an everyday battle. Although the odds are against most of my students, they are the most caring, compassionate kids I have ever known. I absolutely love my job!
Any resources/materials my students receive will positively change their lives. Our school district does not offer much in regards to supplies. My students need crayons, colored pencils, giant sticky pads, binders and 10 subscriptions to "O. Choices."
I have named the project Creative Common Core because as a school district, we have adopted the Common Core for our curriculum.
It will not be one project but an ongoing change in presentations and lessons. I want students to be more involved, to enjoy learning, to be lifelong learners. Sometimes, a little help is all one needs to succeed and reach his/her potential; my kids have an abundance of potential waiting to be nurtured!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
