My Students
I have a great class of high-energy, third grade children, all at different levels and abilities! Some of my students are high achievers and some students are in the resource program who receive support to access the class material at their level. This is what makes teaching challenging and also rewarding; when we find ways to address all the different types of learners in our class each year!
All of my students are zealous learners who love challenges!
I am always searching for new problems for them to solve, and I love seeing the determination with which they tackle them. Classroom projects and problems that work across the varied abilities do so much to encourage team building and critical thinking!
My Project
Coding is an essential skill for all students. Code-a-pillars are an engaging toy that teaches coding skills in a fun way! Students get to "teach" the Code-a-pillars by putting together sections of the toy that direct it to do different things such as turn, stop, and light up. My students will program the toys to cross the room, 'visit' an object, and maneuver through mazes!
These toys are a great way to get students excited about the world of computer coding and a perfect introduction to the topic that is right at their learning level.
Code-a-pillars will help make our classroom a place where students learn those vital skills needed today's technical world, in a fun, level-appropriate way! They will also develop teamwork and critical thinking skills as they work together with their code-a-pillar friends! Having multiple sets will enable us to get more children more deeply involved, and to do "team" and "relay" challenges too! The Code & Go Mouse will let us design and test challenges for our Code-A-Pillars on a smaller scale, and give us more options when our floor space is limited. Thank you so much for helping me with this vital project!
