Our school is located near Salt Lake City, Utah. We are one of the only Title I schools in our district and serve an uncommonly (for Utah) diverse and disadvantaged group of students.
Our school is leading the way in computer science education for all students and we need creative resources to help students understand difficult computer principles and engage in these awesome classes.
My students come from all walks of life. They include refugees, immigrants, the learning disabled, homeless children, and more, and it is a daily struggle to get them engaged in the classroom in meaningful ways. I am especially concerned for the students who have inadequate supports, technology, and examples at home.
My Project
These materials will help my middle school students engage in computer programming in a differentiated, engaging, and fun way. Teaching programming is difficult without good resources to help meet the varied needs of students.
Computer programming is a 21st Century skill that can change a student's life for the better, however, many students don't have the opportunity to learn these skills in a meaningful and fun way.
As a teacher I need all the help I can get to encourage student creativity while trying to adapt to the differing needs of my students. These books will provide students with a wide variety of step by step guides to interesting projects that will get kids excited about coding and hopefully continue down that career path.
