Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My under-represented minority (URM) low socioeconomic students middle school students are in a critical need to experience as much creative programming with STEM project-based learning this year to influence how they feel about themselves as STEM students. These students have asked for more programming projects they can take home and share with their families. Before joining this class, most of my students have no experience the STEM computer programming projects. They do not have the financial resources or the educational backgrounds to find and fund their ideas. I want to inspire my students to work on these projects at home in their free time.
I believe when students and parents mutually engaged with STEM activities in middle school this will increase their likelihood to pursue STEM education in high school, college, and hopefully careers.
I need support to help my students transform their STEM self-efficacy through my integration of CREATIVE CODING WITH electrical project-based learning lessons that promote an inward out approach that will prepare my students to be global competitors in the workforce.
My Project
We are requesting Arduino Uno programmable computer boards, servo motors, battery holders, protective fingers, and hot glue to make their creative coding projects. These materials will allow my students to access DIY STEM coding projects with their own Arduino Uno boards. My students will be able to design, build, and CODE their own prosthetic arm using servo motors they program. As students use their Arduino boards, they will autonomously program their student-built prosthetic arm to complete various tasks.
My middle school students need your help to fund this project so they can own their very own Arduino Uno board to learn to CODE their student-created prosthetic arm.
As a result of this project, my students will continue to learn to CODE STEM DIY projects that help physically impaired individuals access everyday material by using the prosthetic arm they built. This prosthetic arm project applies real-world design challenges to allow my students to empathize with the physical needs of others in a way that programmers can enhance human outcomes.
