My students are very dedicated art students, striving to make art an important part of their lives. I teach drawing, introduction to art, art foundations, photo and film classes and I am working on creating the ideal learning environment for my diverse group of students. For 20% of my students English is a second language. 62% of our students are classified as Economically Disadvantaged. This school’s culture is truly amazing. Our student body and staff are extremely proud of our school.
My Project
Ceramics is the one medium all children look forward to when taking an art class. Ceramics help build fine motors skills and problem solving. The texture rollers and designer stamps will allow the student to apply complex textures to their clay. For example, a student can add realistic zebra stripes or wood grain to their clay. Glaze is the means of coloring and finishing the piece. Students will paint their pieces with glaze and the textures create indents in the clay allowing the glazes to pool. When the glazes pool it creates value in the color once it is fired. Glazes adds beautiful color to the piece but are difficult to paint into complex shapes. With the laser cut animal and symbol silkscreens the student will be able to apply an animal or symbol to their glaze. This is a great opportunity for our future artist, engineers, and architects to create.
