Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I service the English learners are my school. We have students from Central and South America, Caribbean Islands, Syria, Vietnam and the Ukraine. My students complete grade level assignments while learning English. My students work hard everyday to become proficient in English. Many of my students are the first in their family to learn English and they support their entire family with translation at the doctor’s office, grocery stores and restaurants. Many of my students support their younger siblings as well, providing learning opportunities for my students reaches many others.
My Project
These materials will provide English learners with engaging and meaningful activities to practice their English language skills in a small group. Each day my students work in small groups to practice a certain skill , these games will provide variety and targeted instruction. Students will practice challenging topics like idioms and figurative language, two extremely challenging language tasks. When they complete these games, their comprehension of the language will help the become better speakers, listeners and readers and writers. In addition, students will be able to practice these important skills independently as well. My students will have the opportunity to create meaning from these engaging materials in both small groups and independently.
