My students need basic classroom supplies, such as Play-Doh, erasers, and an electric pencil sharpener, to start our year. When we have inclement weather, we have to do indoor recess and I would like to have creative activites for my students to work on!
There are misconceptions about schools that are in a "well sought out district"; however, one of the most common is that we have unlimited supplies and funds. The truth is that we get less funding from the state, so our students have fewer materials/supplies. I am constantly trying to find ways to get my kids enough leveled books for so many different reading abilities and hands-on manipulatives for them to have access to in our class. So many items are just not in our school budget, but I refuse to let that stop us!
My Project
My materials are basic classroom supplies that I can use for morning meetings, crafts to make learning more meaningful, and indoor recess items.
Morning meetings are a time when my students and I form our relationships with each other and learn to develop trust.
There are so many great books that can help introduce how to share our feelings and be better to and for one another; I would love to have easy access to these books to gather around (as opposed to pulling them up on a video as I do currently).
Playdoh and number/letter cookie cutters are a fun way to spend indoor recess time; I am constantly replacing these items as they are used by lots of little hands!
Finally, I am asking for paper plates and Ziploc bags because we do many projects that give us hands on learning that help my students connect to a concept that I teach. I can prepare the individual baggies with items ahead of time to save instructional time passing out materials.
