Creative Carpet Spaces - The Heart of our Kindergarten Classroom
My students need some new carpet areas in our classroom for whole group learning, small group interactions and play and exploration space on the tile floor.
I can't even begin to explain how much I love my Kindergarteners! I've been teaching for 22 years and there is no better place for me than Kindergarten! I teach in a small school in southwest Minnesota.
Every day with my Kindergarteners is different-and I LOVE IT!
One of my favorite things is that I get to be a part of so many "firsts" in their lives....first time they read, write a sentence, tie their shoes, loose a tooth...the list could go on and on.
My classroom has developed an Eric Carle theme. I've chosen this because I love that children enter the room recognizing characters from some of their well known childhood books- Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? and the Very Hungry Caterpillar are two of my favorites.
I also model our entire year after The Very Hungry Caterpillar. They crawl in to Kindergarten from Preschool-hungry to learn. We grow all year preparing to become butterflies and fly independently into 1st Grade!
My Project
The big rug in my Kindergarten classroom has been the heart of all of our learning for the past 20 years. It is the space where we gather for whole group lessons, work with small groups, do partner activities, and even explore independently. My most fond memories as a teacher have a connection to the rug since it is the area that gets used the most in our room. Sadly, it is time to replace my current carpet and hopefully add one additional carpet space. I am moving into an all tile classroom next near and I believe it would be beneficial to provide the children with carpeted spaces to use.
By donating to my classroom project you would be giving my Kindergartners two new carpet spaces to learn, listen, share, draw, write, sing, play, dance, rest, gather and build valuable memories for many years to come!
To be honest it is even hard for me to "let go" of my current classroom rug. It holds so many memories! But, the edges are losing the binding and it will no longer lay flat. The stains and marks are increasing and it seems like the right time to provide a new heart in our classroom.
