This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students participating in the Writing Club are 5th and 6th grade students who have expressed great interest in writing books. The club came about when the students were writing books during class and were not focusing on the lessons being taught. I spoke with these students and asked if they would like to start a writing club during recess and lunch. They were so excited!
The students meet every Wednesday and love talking about their writing and shared ideas for developing their books.
The students students come from the Chicago public school system and they are in a school where 93% of the students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The students have developed the club agenda and work hard at providing one another constructive and polite comments about each others writing. As the teacher I am only a facilitator and not in charge of the group. The students lead the group and learn positive social skills.
My Project
The writing folders will enable the students to organize their projects based on where the student is on their individual projects. The folders will enable easy access to their writing pieces. The Writing Journals will give the students a platform for writing down their ideas and develop their thoughts in one common location.
Both the soft cover and hard covered books will enable the students to create 2 original books that will be displayed in the school library.
This will give the students the opportunity to show case their work. These supplies will give the students the desire to develop their writing skills
