Our students form a community that is much like a family. We welcome all and support each other in our learning and life experiences. The mission of AAHS is to "Learn by doing. Embrace your place in the world. Prepare for the future. And make friends along the way." As a new teacher to this school, my year will be spent getting to know my students, providing them with meaningful artistic experiences, and celebrating their successes.
For many, art is a safe space where they can share ideas and develop a voice.
Many of my students come from low-income households and 40% receive Free and Reduced Lunch. My job is to provide students with the resources they need to feel successful and as many learning and creative experiences as possible. I am passionate about Teaching for Artistic Behavior and providing students with choice in their projects and mediums. I love coming to school and sharing my passion for creativity and creating a classroom community that celebrates the creative process.
My Project
My students have never had a high school art program and I want to provide them with a positive and productive studio atmosphere. I have limited resources and want to help my students create in as many mediums possible. We currently have no printmaking supplies and no drying rack to store work such as prints, paintings or collage projects. I believe that an arts education should provide students with as many creative opportunities as possible. I find that the more experiences I can provide, the more students are engaged and find a medium, idea, or area of expertise that speaks to them and is something they can take away into their future.
Art challenges us to think critically and creatively, communicate effectively with other humans, and understand different perspectives.
With your donation, my students will have a solid foundation for their visual arts education and the ability to use their studio space effectively and efficiently.
