Creative Arts C.A.R.E.S. Collaborative Mural Project

Our comprehensive Art Program is both heart and soul to the education of every child in our school. I teach weekly, hour-long fine arts workshops to every class; Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Our school is a charter school, serving a diverse urban population.
Our charter school community practices the "Responsive Classroom" methodology which is based on the ideals of "C.A.R.E.S." (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy and Self-Control). We need a central mural that depicts the practice of each of these ideals to remind us of our collective promise to behave in a manner that shows that everyone of us here "C.A.R.E.S". For example, what does "Empathy" look like? K-3 students will collaborate to create a cohesive large-scale mural containing individual vignettes based on the feelings and actions that correspond with "C.A.R.E.S".
In order to create this collaborative mural project we need a complete array of acrylic paint colors, enough paint brushes and palettes for 200 student-artists to share, and plenty of matte medium and gesso. The C.A.R.E.S. mural will be 8 feet high and 16 feet long. Creating it together will afford student-artists the chance to better define the culture of kindness and responsibility that characterizes our school.
