The students in my classroom are fun, full of energy, and love to come to school each day! They are eager to learn and it shows as soon as they enter the classroom. For many of the children, this is their very first time away from their parents. I am honored to a part of their early learning and to help build a foundation for future life success.
I love being able to provide engaging, hands-on experiences throughout our school day.
The majority of my students are Dual Language Learners and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our program provides 100% of our students with free breakfast and lunch. The families are considered to be at the highest risk of educational hardships. I want to ensure I give them a safe, secure, and respectful environment where they can thrive and reach their greatest potential. We foster a sense of community in our classroom where the children feel and know they are loved and an important part of our school family.
My Project
My students are fascinated with the Art Area and are eager to work there each day they come to school. This area helps to bring out a specific inner creativity that I would not see otherwise in the rest of the classroom. I do not want to limit or stifle their creative juices while they are flowing! The assorted paints: foam, glitter, tempera, and water colors will give the children different mediums to work with. The craft sticks, feathers, wiggly eyes, wooden shapes, pony beads, pipe cleaners, fabric mosaics, foam cubes, and shapes provide them with various textures to add details to their work. They have been learning about how details make our work more interesting and they love pointing out what they have added to their art pieces! The messy mats will help contain their work:)
Creativity isn't limited to just the Art Area.
My students love when I read and reread familiar stories. After I read a book multiple times, I put it in the Book Area so the children can read it on their own. They are great at retelling the stories as they turn the pages. The felt board stories will be a great addition for them to extend their book knowledge and reading comprehension skills. In addition, it's a wonderful, interactive way to get involved in reading.
Lastly, the table top easel will allow my children to draw and write on a vertical surface which is beneficial for their bilateral coordination, shoulder/elbow/wrist stability, spatial awareness, and pencil grasp. The design builders will let the children create complex constructions using simple lines and curves and then they can transfer their idea to be built in the Art Area!
